Dave Cubit

Founder, President, Director, and Chief Executive Officer

Community Background:

  • President of the Board of Directors – Humane Society Northwest Indiana, Miller Beach Indiana

As a former member of various volunteer organizations in the past, I’ve had the honor of serving the public and helping to make a significant impact on the community. For me, there is no greater feeling than to know that I’ve helped make someone’s life better.

Hobbies and Interests:

When I’m not working hard, I enjoy scuba diving and aspire to be a great underwater cinematographer. Throughout the last few years I’ve had the pleasure of becoming close friends with members of the local scuba diving community and spend my time enjoying the beautiful but different realm under the surface. If you’re unable to find me under the water with my camera, you’ll always find me at your nearest pet store, happily patting every dog on the head.

Pets:

Currently I have ‘Shoes’, a black Labrador Retriever, and three cats; ‘Nino’, ‘Mazzy’, and ‘Spooky’.

Personal:

What I enjoy the most about being the founder of Canine Knights Foundation is to see the public benefit from an organization that I put together after much careful thought and consideration. As a child, dogs were an integral part of my life and I was significantly impacted by the loss of two, both to cancer. I took special notice to how devastated my father was in both of these instances. Now, as an adult, after fighting alongside and winning battles against canine cancer with Shoes and Luna, I realized the need to provide a platform for individuals to express themselves on canine cancer in a different light. I can relate to individuals’ fears on this topic and see that with the right fighting, positive attitude and a great team behind them, there is hope for everyone.

James Sommer

Vice-President and Director

Community Background:

  • Local, Regional, and State Level Board positions in the Illinios Jaycee’s
  • Honors as the #1 President in the State and the #2 President in the United States
  • Local and Regional Chamber of Commerce activist
  • Local and Regional Rotary activist

As a member and active leader in each of these organizations I had the pleasure of organizing, participating and championing a wide range of community programs that benefited children, adults, pets and the residences at large.

Hobbies and Interests:

Currently I am blessed to have my hobby and my job is one in the same, Scuba Diving.  As the Operations Manager and Director of Training for a local dive center I have the opportunity to reach out to clients both young and old and share my passion.

Pets:

Currently, I have a Yellow English Labrador Retriever…his name is Leo!

Personal:

I enjoy the opportunity of helping others in their time of need. Be it financial or spiritual support during challenging times, with their treasured pets.  I have lost a dog to Canine Cancer and I know the stress and heartache this terrible illness places not only on the dog but on the entire Family.  As a member of the Family, my dog deserved the empathy, understanding and respect of a member of our Family. As the Vice-President of Canine Knights, I truly look forward to helping others get through these times.

Treasurer and Director

Community Background:

  • American Red Cross
  • John G. Shedd Aquarium

I have always thought it’s important to give back to the community as a whole. I have been with several non-profit organizations over the years, and in addition to contributing to Canine Knights Foundation, I devote my time towards the well-being of others and towards the cause of marine conservation and education. I have a deep appreciation for all animals, especially dogs.

Hobbies and Interests:

My favorite hobby is Scuba Diving and helping to educate others on the wonderful sport. Aside from this, I enjoy various other outdoor activities with my family such as camping, downhill skiing, and mountain biking to name a few.

Pets:

In the past, I’ve enjoyed having our family dog, ‘Taffy’ as part of the Family, and she is sorely missed. Now I have several fish and two adorable Guinea Pigs named ‘Smore’ and ‘Stanley’.

Personal:

I believe this foundation brings the very best out of me by realizing that whether you are human or any other animal we all share this planet together and should be treated as one. This means also that all animals deserve the best care available and no one whoever it is, should not be left behind.

Secretary and Director

Community Background:

  • Volunteer – Humane Society, Omaha, Nebraska

Having moved to Omaha Nebraska for two years some time ago for a job transfer, I fell in love with dogs at the local Humane Society where I volunteered most of my spare time. Being able to provide care for them and give them much needed social interaction on a regular basis was a very heartwarming and memorable experience for me. Seeing that I made an impact on a dog’s life and introducing them to their new owner was the best feeling of all.

Hobbies and Interests:

Like the others on the Board of Directors, I enjoy most of my free time Scuba Diving anywhere there are interesting fish. I enjoy reading publications about sea turtles and  seeing them in their natural habitat.

Pets:

Currently I have ‘Phoebe’, a yellow Labrador retriever, and one cat named ‘Murphy’,

Personal:

Being a part of Canine Knights Foundation has been especially rewarding. Having experienced that dreaded telephone call from the veterinarian, I completely understand the pain and anguish that surrounds the diagnosis of canine cancer. In July of 2016, I lost my best friend, Luna to Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. Luna was a cancer survivor and one of the major points of inspiration behind the upstart of The Canine Knights Foundation. She will be sorely missed. It is one of my goals that her legacy live on in helping other dogs who have cancer. Being a part of this team and helping to change people’s lives by providing them financial and moral support is the least that I can do for others experiencing the same.
